Bhopal Wedding Sets Eco-Friendly Precedent
Ashish and Neha wanted to get married in a way that didn't harm the environment.
They decided to have a wedding with almost no plastic or waste.
They worked with groups that help the environment and support women.
They used steel dishes, gave out seed balls, and asked guests to donate school supplies.
Their wedding inspired many people and showed that big celebrations can be fun and eco-friendly at the same time.
They kept 45 kilograms of plastic from being thrown away and helped 50 women with their jobs.
Many guests liked the idea and want to do similar things at their own events.
Ashish Garg and Neha Singhal organized Bhopal's first low-waste, plastic-free wedding on 11 February 2020.
The wedding diverted 45 kg of plastic waste and saved 150 litres of landfill space.
They collaborated with HelpBox Foundation and Mahashakti Seva Kendra to create eco-friendly decorations and return gifts.
Guests were inspired to donate school supplies and use reusable items, with 300 attendees participating.
The event empowered 50 women and supported the education of underprivileged children.
