Parliament Passes VB-G RAM G Bill
The Parliament has passed a new bill called the VB-G RAM G Bill, which replaces the old MGNREGA law.
This new bill aims to update how rural employment is managed.
The government says it's a good idea because the economy has changed a lot since the old law was made.
The bill increases the number of work days guaranteed to 125 days per year and includes a provision to freeze implementation during the agriculture season.
However, many opposition leaders are worried.
They think the bill might make it harder for people in villages to find jobs and that it puts a big financial burden on the states.
They also say the bill was introduced in a rushed manner and doesn't address issues like biometric mismatches.
The government has given assurances, but the opposition remains unconvinced and wanted the bill to be checked by a special committee before it becomes a law.
The bill was passed despite protests and walkouts by the opposition.
The VB-G RAM G Bill was passed by both houses of Parliament within two days, replacing MGNREGA.
The bill increases the entitlement to 125 days of work per year and includes a provision to freeze implementation during the agriculture season.
Opposition leaders, including Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, expressed strong concerns about the impact on rural employment and the financial burden on states.
The opposition demanded the bill be sent to a parliamentary committee for further scrutiny and later called for its outright withdrawal.
The bill was passed in both houses in the presence of members of the ruling alliance, with the opposition staging a walkout.
