Russia Threatens Full WhatsApp Ban
Russia's government is very upset with WhatsApp.
They say WhatsApp isn't following their rules.
The government wants WhatsApp to share information about people who might be doing bad things, like fraud or terrorism.
But WhatsApp isn't doing that.
So, the government is saying they might completely block WhatsApp in Russia.
They've already started limiting some calls on WhatsApp and another app called Telegram.
This is because both apps are owned by companies outside of Russia, and they're not sharing the information that the Russian government wants.
WhatsApp says Russia is trying to block people from using secure communication.
Russia is also promoting a different app called MAX, which some people think could be used to track users.
State media says these accusations are false.
Russia's Roskomnadzor threatens to fully ban WhatsApp if it doesn't comply with Russian law.
WhatsApp and Telegram have been accused of refusing to share information with Russian law enforcement.
Russia began limiting some calls on WhatsApp and Telegram in August.
The restrictions are due to the platforms' foreign ownership and non-compliance with local laws.
Roskomnadzor has stated it will continue to restrict WhatsApp until it meets the required legal obligations.
