SXUK Expands Ahead of 2026 Convocation
St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (SXUK) is getting ready for a big event called the convocation in 2026.
Important people like the head of the Jesuits and the Governor of West Bengal will be there.
The university is also planning to give a special degree to Dr. Shashi Tharoor.
Since it started in 2017, SXUK has grown a lot.
It now has more than 4,000 students and is building new classrooms, labs, and even a big auditorium.
The university wants to start new courses like engineering and nursing.
It’s also using special technology for learning and plans to offer more courses to help students learn new skills.

SXUK's 7th convocation is scheduled for 21 February, 2026, at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, New Town, with Rev. Dr. Arturo Sosa, S.J. as Chief Guest and West Bengal Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose presiding.
The university plans to confer an honorary D.Litt. on Dr. Shashi Tharoor during the convocation.
SXUK has grown from 400 students in 2017 to over 4,000, with 1,085 students, including 24 PhD recipients, graduating this year.
New academic programmes, including B.Tech, M.Tech, Integrated MBA, Integrated B.Ed., a School of Design, and nursing programmes, are planned for 2026, with a long-term goal of establishing a medical college.
Infrastructure expansion includes a new academic building, an auditorium with 2,000 seats, two smaller halls, new classrooms, laboratories, a library, and moot court facilities, along with an AI-powered Learning Management System.
