Israel Evicts Palestinians in East Jerusalem
In a place called Silwan in East Jerusalem, some Palestinian families are being told to leave their homes.
A group called Ateret Cohanim wants to take over these homes, saying they used to belong to Jewish people a long time ago.
The families have lived there since 1967 and don't want to leave.
The Israeli government is supporting this, but other countries and the United Nations say it's not right.
The families don't know where they will go next, and some people are worried about what this means for the future of a Palestinian state.
32 Palestinian families in Silwan, East Jerusalem, have been ordered to leave their homes by mid-March 2024.
The evictions are in favor of the Israeli settler organization Ateret Cohanim, which claims historical ownership of the land.
Palestinians say they have lived in the area since 1967 and refuse to leave, despite offers of compensation.
Israel encourages Jewish settlement in predominantly Palestinian areas, a practice not recognized internationally.
The evictions have raised tensions, as Silwan is near the Al-Aqsa Mosque, a frequent flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
