Telangana, Maharashtra Show Possible Progress on Tummidihatti Barrage

Telangana, Maharashtra Show Possible Progress on Tummidihatti Barrage

Telangana and Maharashtra are discussing how tall a proposed barrage on the Pranahita River should be.

Telangana wants the barrage’s water level to reach 152 metres.

Maharashtra referred to an older agreement for a 148-metre level.

Maharashtra is worried that the higher level could submerge land in its state.

It also wants to ensure that its rights to Godavari River water are protected.

Telangana showed studies about how much land might be submerged.

Telangana said it would pay for relief and rehabilitation if people or land in Maharashtra were affected.

Officials from both states exchanged views in a cordial meeting, but they did not make a final decision.

The Central Water Commission will hold another meeting in three weeks after Maharashtra studies Telangana’s documents.
