Delhi HC Issues Split Verdict on MP Engineer Rashid's Plea for Travel Cost Waiver
A special court in India, called the Delhi High Court, had to decide if a man named Engineer Rashid, who is a lawmaker, should have to pay for his own security and travel to go to work in Parliament.
He is currently in jail because he is accused of helping terrorists a while ago.
Two judges heard his case.
One judge said he should not have to pay, but the other judge said he should.
Because they couldn't agree, the case will now go to the main judge of the court to decide what happens next.
This means we don't know yet if he will get help paying for his trips to Parliament.
The Delhi High Court has issued a split verdict on Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid's plea to waive travel and security costs for attending Parliament.
Justice Vivek Chaudhary rejected the plea, while Justice Anup Bhambhani allowed it.
The matter will now be referred to the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court for further direction.
Engineer Rashid has been in Tihar Jail since 2019 in connection with a terror funding case.
Previous court orders had required him to bear the expenses for his travel and security while in custody to attend parliamentary sessions.
