Mauritius pitches cultural, adventure attractions beyond beach holidays

Mauritius pitches cultural, adventure attractions beyond beach holidays

Mauritius is famous for beaches, honeymoons and luxury resorts.

Tourism officials want Indian travelers to know about other experiences there too.

These include historic places connected to Indian migration and religious sites such as Grand Bassin.

People can also hike, see colorful geological formations and visit a dormant volcano.

Aapravasi Ghat in the capital, Port Louis, was an important arrival point for many indentured workers.

Mauritius and India share strong historical and cultural links.

India is currently Mauritius’s sixth-largest tourism source market.

The country received more than 51,000 Indian visitors in the first seven months of 2026.

A travel industry leader said direct flights from Calcutta would work better if they also connected travelers to other African destinations.
