Trump Administration Develops Semiconductor Tariff Relief Plan

Trump Administration Develops Semiconductor Tariff Relief Plan

The United States may charge extra fees on semiconductors brought in from other countries.

These fees are called tariffs.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said companies could avoid the fees by building chip factories in America.

Companies that do not build there may have to pay to sell their products in the United States.

The government has not said how high the tariffs would be.

It is also considering applying them to products that use chips, such as laptops and gaming consoles.

The plan is still being discussed and could change.

Officials say the goal is to have more semiconductors made in America.
