SEEPZ Eviction Threatens Elderly Wellness Centre
A wellness centre for elderly people in Mumbai is in trouble.
The place where it operates, SEEPZ, has told the centre to leave in five days.
The centre helps around 4,000 elderly people with their health needs.
SEEPZ says the building is not safe for medical use and they need the space for other things.
The centre's staff is trying to find a new place, but they are worried because many of their patients are old and need easy access to healthcare.
Some people have written to important government officials to ask for help, but SEEPZ says they will take the centre by force if they don't leave on time.
SEEPZ Authority issued an eviction notice to the CGHS Wellness Centre, giving it five days to vacate the premises.
The centre serves around 4,000 elderly patients, many with chronic illnesses, and is a vital lifeline for them.
SEEPZ claims the premises are unauthorised and unsuitable for medical use, citing structural safety concerns.
The eviction is part of a redevelopment plan for an adjoining building to create residential space for SEEPZ employees.
CGHS authorities have sought intervention from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to secure more time and find an alternative space.
