Gyanesh Kumar Calls India’s Electoral Process Among World’s Most Transparent

India’s top election official, Gyanesh Kumar, said the country’s elections are checked carefully and openly.

Political parties and candidates can watch or take part in checks at many stages.

Election workers visit homes and review voter lists.

They look for records belonging to people who are absent, have moved, have died, are listed more than once or are foreigners.

They also work to keep eligible voters on the list.

Voting machines and paper-trail machines are tested before voting begins.

After voting, officials compare machine results with official records during counting.

Kumar asked young people to help others register to vote.

He also said schools and colleges can teach students more about democracy.
