Telangana Voters Show Low Response to ECI Notices

The Election Commission sent notices to many voters in Telangana because their voter details had problems.

About 45 lakh people received notices, but only around nine lakh replied.

Officials say people who do not reply could have their names removed from the voter list.

More than 72 lakh votes have already been deleted for reasons such as people moving, dying or appearing twice.

Some voters say the process takes too much time.

Daily wage workers, elderly people and sick people may find it especially difficult to visit government offices.

The Telangana chief electoral officer said an adult family member may represent certain voters.

Political parties want more time so fewer valid voters lose their names from the list.
