Billions Unclaimed: Sahara Investor Funds Still With SEBI
Imagine a lot of money, like 20,000 crore rupees, meant for people who invested in some companies called Sahara.
The money is with a financial watchdog called SEBI.
It's been there since 2012 because of a court order.
Sadly, only a tiny bit of the money has been given back to the investors.
Many investors haven't claimed their money yet, maybe because they don't have the right papers.
SEBI is keeping the money safe and earning interest, but it's still waiting for the rightful owners to come forward.
SEBI still holds Rs 20,000 crore of unclaimed Sahara investors' money.
The money has been with SEBI since 2012, following a Supreme Court directive.
Only Rs 163 crore has been disbursed to investors so far.
The funds are for investors in Sahara India Real Estate Corp. and Sahara Housing.
SEBI states it will continue disbursing funds to verified claimants.
