Punjab Villages Appeal for Parole of Convicted Sikh Militant
Sixty-six villages in Punjab have asked for a man named Jagtar Singh Hawara to be let out of jail for a while.
Hawara is in jail in Delhi because he was found guilty of a crime a long time ago.
The villages are asking Delhi's Chief Minister to let Hawara visit his mother, who is not feeling well.
They say it's fair since others involved in the same case have been allowed out.
Hawara's lawyer sent an email with these requests, and his mother also asked for his release.
The leaders of the villages have promised Hawara will behave well if he is let out.
Sixty-six Punjab panchayats passed resolutions requesting parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara.
Hawara was convicted in the 1995 assassination of Beant Singh.
The panchayats appealed to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Hawara's lawyer sent an email with the resolutions to CM Gupta's office.
Hawara is currently serving a life sentence in Delhi's Mandoli Central Jail.
