Kandivali-Borivali 5th and 6th Railway Lines Commissioned
The railway lines between Kandivali and Borivali in Mumbai have been officially approved for use after a thorough inspection.
This includes two new lines, the 5th and 6th lines, which will help reduce crowding and improve train schedules.
The inspection checked the safety and readiness of these lines, and they passed with some speed limits set for operation.
Before these lines can be used by passengers, some final safety checks and improvements need to be completed.
This is part of a bigger project to make train travel better in Mumbai.
The 5th and 6th railway lines between Kandivali and Borivali were authorized for passenger and freight operations after a CRS inspection.
The 3.21-kilometer section is part of the Mumbai Central–Borivali 6th Line Project of Western Railway.
Speed trials were conducted with WAP-7 and WAP-5 locomotives, reaching speeds of up to 85 kmph and 107 kmph respectively.
Authorisation was granted with maximum permissible speeds of 70 kmph on the 5th line and 80 kmph on the 6th line.
Commercial operations will commence only after addressing specific safety and operational stipulations.
