India Opens Dumping Probes Into Five Chinese Products

India Opens Dumping Probes Into Five Chinese Products

India is investigating whether five kinds of goods from China are being sold at unfairly low prices.

Indian businesses that make similar goods say these imports are hurting them.

The goods include chemicals, a medicine ingredient, forklifts, copper pipes, and a material used in fabrics.

India’s trade remedies authority is looking into the complaints.

It has not yet decided whether the claims are proven.

If it finds that the imports were dumped and caused serious harm, the authority may recommend extra charges.

The Finance Ministry makes the final decision about those charges.

India and China are both members of the World Trade Organization, which provides rules for trade.
