Audit Delays for Completed Buildings in Kolkata
In Kolkata, the government has asked civic bodies to prioritize safety audits for buildings that are still under construction over those that have been completed but are waiting for their completion certificates.
This decision was made after a warehouse collapse in June.
The stop-work order, which is in place until July 31, means that under-construction buildings must pass a safety audit before work can resume.
For completed buildings, the audit teams will rely on reports from when the building was constructed.
This could delay the handover of flats to buyers and might cause some projects to miss deadlines.
Over 300 buildings in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area and more than 60 in Bidhannagar are set to undergo these audits.
Civic bodies prioritize safety audits for under-construction buildings over completed ones awaiting certificates.
Completed buildings will be reviewed later, relying on structural and cube test reports.
