Gauhati High Court Acquits Man on Death Row in 2018 Murder
A man named Bikash Das, who was originally sentenced to death for the murder of a woman on a train, has been found innocent.
This decision came from the Gauhati High Court.
The court reviewed the case and decided there wasn't enough strong evidence to prove he committed the crime.
The original case happened in July 2018, when a woman was found dead on a train.
Even though a lower court found Das guilty, the High Court decided the evidence wasn't good enough to keep him in prison.
This means Das is now free.
Bikash Das, sentenced to death for a 2018 train passenger murder, was acquitted.
The incident involved a female student found dead on the Dibrugarh-Rangia Express.
The trial court had convicted Das; another accused was acquitted earlier.
The High Court cited a lack of clear evidence in the acquittal.
Senior counsel Angshuman Bora argued lack of sufficient evidence.
