BITS Pilani Withdraws from THE Rankings
BITS Pilani, a famous university in India, has decided to stop being part of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
They are doing this because they think the rankings aren't transparent or fair.
Other big universities in India, like the IITs, stopped being part of these rankings a few years ago for the same reasons.
BITS Pilani says they might join the rankings again in the future if the way the rankings are done becomes more open and fair.
They still want to work with other universities around the world and do important research.
The university believes that rankings can be useful, but they need to be trustworthy and easy to understand.
BITS Pilani withdraws from Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
Concerns over transparency, methodological rigor, and verifiable benchmarking cited.
Older IITs have been opting out of THE rankings since 2020.
BITS Pilani will not share data for THE rankings, affecting World, Asia, and Subject Rankings.
Institute remains open to re-engaging with THE if ranking framework evolves.
