Transgender Health Camp Offers Safe Space in New Town
A health clinic in New Town organized a special camp for transgender people.
It was held on August 15, India’s Independence Day.
More than 30 people came for medical tests and consultations.
Many attendees said hospitals can feel scary because they face staring, incorrect names and insensitive questions.
They said this camp felt safer and more respectful.
Some also described problems with jobs, families and using public washrooms.
One attendee asked for an old-age home and more government support for transgender people.
The clinic said it wants to organize similar camps regularly.
Caregenix Clinic held a judgment-free health camp for transgender people on August 15 in New Town.
More than 30 attendees received BMI assessments, liver function tests, blood work and doctor consultations.
Attendees described discrimination and discomfort in hospitals, workplaces, public washrooms and family settings.
Participants called for an old-age home and government support for housing, healthcare and financial security.
Caregenix said it hopes to make the camp a regular event rather than a one-time holiday initiative.
