Gujarat High Court Reprimands Journalist Over Undisclosed Bail Plea

Gujarat High Court Reprimands Journalist Over Undisclosed Bail Plea

Journalist Ravi Nair was involved in a criminal defamation case filed by Adani Enterprises.

A lower court had sentenced him to one year in prison.

While appealing that decision, he missed a hearing because his lawyers said he was unwell and had to travel from Kerala.

The appellate court rejected his request to skip appearing in person and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Nair was later arrested and his lawyers asked the High Court to intervene.

They also asked a lower court for bail, which granted it on September 24.

The High Court criticized the lawyers for not telling it about that bail request.

The court said people asking for special help must openly share all important facts.

Since Nair had already received bail, the High Court closed the petition without deciding the main legal issues.
