Delhi’s 2047 Master Plan Promises Access, Lacks Disability KPI

Delhi’s 2047 Master Plan Promises Access, Lacks Disability KPI

Delhi has made a new plan for how the city should grow until 2047.

The plan says buildings, streets and public places should be easier for people with disabilities to use.

It also asks schools, parking areas and spaces near metro stations to follow accessibility rules.

However, the plan does not have a separate score for checking whether accessibility goals are being met.

Experts worry that different agencies may make separate parts of a journey accessible while leaving gaps between them.

They say people should be able to travel from home to pavements, public transport, workplaces or hospitals and back safely.

One expert also warned that special accessible facilities should not replace inclusion in ordinary schools, parks and transport.

Officials have said people with disabilities were consulted and that accessibility rules are included in the plan’s core development standards.
