Ahmedabad Restaurants Install Kitchen Cameras, Deny Diners Live Feeds
The Ahmedabad city government asked restaurants to put cameras in their kitchens.
It wants to encourage restaurants to keep food safe and clean.
The request went to more than 11,000 restaurants.
About 4,000 had cameras, according to a city health official.
Some already had them, while others installed them after the advisory.
The city says the request is not a rule that restaurants must follow.
Diners will not be able to watch live kitchen videos because owners are not ready to provide that access.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation issued a kitchen CCTV advisory in August to more than 11,000 restaurants.
The advisory followed a crackdown focused on safe, fresh and hygienic food service.
About 4,000 establishments had installed cameras, according to AMC official Dr Tejas Shah.
An AMC survey in September checked which outlets had newly installed or already had kitchen CCTV.
The advisory is not mandatory, and restaurant owners are not prepared to give diners live camera access.
