China's Fujian Aircraft Carrier Sails Through Taiwan Strait
China's newest and most advanced aircraft carrier, named the Fujian, sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday.
Taiwan's defence ministry reported this and said they monitored the carrier.
The Fujian is different from China's other carriers because it has a flat deck and special systems to launch aircraft.
China says the Taiwan Strait belongs to them, but Taiwan and the United States say it is an international waterway.
The Fujian is China's third aircraft carrier and is expected to carry more and heavier planes, including stealth jet fighters.
President Xi Jinping was present at its commissioning ceremony last month.
Taiwan's government does not agree with China's claims and says only the people of Taiwan can decide their future.
China's newest aircraft carrier, the Fujian, sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday, December 16, 2024.
Taiwan's defence ministry monitored the transit and reported the activity.
The Fujian is China's third aircraft carrier, featuring a flat flight deck and electromagnetic catapults for launching aircraft.
China claims sovereignty over the Taiwan Strait, while Taiwan and the United States consider it an international waterway.
The Fujian is expected to carry a larger and more diverse range of planes, including early-warning aircraft and stealth jet fighters.
