FAA probes safety lapse in Reagan Airport Marine One incident

A very important helicopter called Marine One carries the President of the United States.

On Tuesday afternoon, August 4, Marine One was flying toward an airport with President Donald Trump on board.

At the same time, a big passenger airplane was taking off from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Safety rules say planes should not take off or land when important helicopters are near that airport.

The airplane and the helicopter got a little too close for a moment, which the FAA calls a 'loss of separation.'

Nobody was in danger, and the two aircraft were never going to hit each other.

The FAA, which keeps airplanes safe, is now investigating why the rules were not followed.

Those rules were made after a sad accident in January 2025 when two aircraft crashed and 67 people died.

Investigators want to make sure something like this does not happen again.
