HDD Demand Rises with Data Centre Boom
Data centres are getting bigger and need more storage.
Most of the data is still stored on hard disk drives (HDDs), even though there are newer types of storage like flash drives.
A company called Western Digital says that HDDs are important for storing lots of data cheaply.
They also mentioned that India is a key market for them.
The company has seen good growth and expects more demand for storage in the future, especially for things like cloud computing and surveillance.
Data centre investments have reached $70 billion this year, driving demand for HDDs.
About 80% of data in data centres is stored on HDDs, despite the rise of flash storage.
Western Digital has seen 27% year-over-year revenue growth post-separation from SanDisk.
Surveillance storage is the largest revenue contributor for Western Digital.
India is a key market for Western Digital, with significant investments in cloud and AI workloads.
