Rupee Recovery Faces Oil Price and Foreign Outflow Headwinds

Rupee Recovery Faces Oil Price and Foreign Outflow Headwinds

The Indian rupee became slightly stronger against the US dollar during the past week.

This happened partly because the dollar weakened as investors moved away from trades funded with Japanese yen.

Expectations that Japan may raise interest rates helped strengthen the yen.

Higher oil prices are a problem because India imports a lot of crude oil.

Oil prices rose as fighting in West Asia increased concerns about shipping near the Strait of Hormuz.

Foreign investors have also taken about $1.5 billion out of Indian markets in September so far.

These outflows can make it harder for the rupee to strengthen.

Analysts expect the rupee to move mostly between 94.50 and 95.30 in the near term.
