US State Department lists gifts from Indian leaders to US officials
The US State Department has shared a list of gifts that Indian leaders, like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave to US officials in 2024.
These gifts include things like a wooden chest, a silver train set, and a shawl.
Some gifts were given during a meeting in India.
The US keeps track of these gifts because it's the law.
Most of the gifts were sent to places like the National Archives, and some were thrown away because they were food items.
The list also says that not accepting these gifts could make the Indian leaders feel bad.
The US State Department released a list of gifts received by US officials from Indian leaders in 2024, including PM Narendra Modi, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Gifts from PM Modi to former President Joe Biden included a wood chest, scarf, saffron with jar, wood box for tea (USD 562), a sterling silver metal train set (USD 7,750), and a pashmina shawl (USD 2,969).
Other gifts from PM Modi included a Lord Krishna Raas Leela Silver Box (USD 1,330) to former Vice President Kamala Harris and cufflinks (USD 585.65) to her husband, Douglas Emhoff.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval gave a Kashmir pashmina scarf with box (USD 599) to then Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Jacob Sullivan.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh gifted a Shiva Nataraja Bronze Statue (USD 3,700) to then Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, with the disposition of the gift pending transfer to the General Services Administration (GSA).
