US launches $201M fund for Trans-Caspian trade route
The United States is giving $201 million to help two countries, Armenia and Azerbaijan, work together after many years of fighting.
These countries used to have big disagreements over a place called Nagorno-Karabakh, but about a year ago they made a peace deal.
The United States helped them make this deal.
Now the US wants to help them build roads, train tracks, and other ways to travel and trade with each other.
This is called the Trans-Caspian Trade Route.
The plan is to connect these countries to a bigger path for moving goods between Europe and Asia.
Building has already started, with workers in Armenia checking where new train tracks should go, and Azerbaijan almost done with some of its roads and tracks.
The leaders of both countries met at the White House with Donald Trump to sign the peace agreement.
The US hopes that working together on trade will help the peace last a long time.
The United States launched the Trans-Caspian Enterprise Fund with $201 million in US government funding to spur private investment across the Trans-Caspian Trade Route.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the fund, which has a newly elected board of directors.
The announcement marked the first anniversary of the US-brokered Armenia-Azerbaijan peace declaration signed at the White House.
The proposed multimodal corridor (TRIPP) is expected to include railways, roads, energy links and digital infrastructure connecting Armenia and Azerbaijan.
