Tunisian Court Sentences Opposition Leader to 12 Years

Tunisian Court Sentences Opposition Leader to 12 Years

A court in Tunisia has sentenced a well-known opposition leader, Abir Moussi, to 12 years in prison.

Her lawyer says the decision is unfair and was made for political reasons, not because of the law.

Some groups that protect human rights also say this is part of a bigger problem where the president is using the courts to silence people who disagree with him.

Moussi says she was just criticizing the government and will keep resisting what she calls abuse and violence.

Many other politicians are also in jail, and critics say the president is making Tunisia less democratic.

The president says he is just trying to make Tunisia better by removing traitors.
