High Court Bars Stepfather From Replacing Biological Father on Certificate

High Court Bars Stepfather From Replacing Biological Father on Certificate

A court was asked to change the father’s name on a child’s birth certificate.

The child’s mother had married someone else after the child was born.

She wanted her new husband, Balwinder Kumar, listed as the father.

The original certificate listed Jagjit Singh as the father.

The court said the certificate records who the child’s parents were at birth.

Getting married again does not automatically change those facts.

The court therefore refused the request.

It relied on an earlier decision involving a similar case.
