Meghalaya achieves first full freight rake loading
Meghalaya has achieved a big milestone in its railway history.
For the first time, a full train loaded with coal was sent from Mendipathar, which is Meghalaya's only railway station.
This train had 42 wagons and was sent to a place called Jalalgarh.
Before this, Mendipathar had only unloaded goods and handled smaller trains.
Now, it is ready to handle bigger trains, which will help move more goods and support the economy of Meghalaya.
This is a great step for the state's transportation and economic growth.
Meghalaya achieved its first full freight rake loading at Mendipathar, the state's only railway head.
The operation involved 42 covered wagons carrying coal, destined for Jalalgarh.
Mendipathar entered the railway freight network with its first unloading operation in February 2025.
Since then, the station has handled 29 mini rakes and six full rakes, equivalent to 20.5 full rakes.
The commencement of full freight rake loading marks Mendipathar's readiness for large-scale freight movement, expected to facilitate goods movement and support economic activity in Meghalaya.
