Woman Regains Finger Movement After Rare Delhi Joint Replacement
A woman badly hurt her finger in a road accident.
The middle joint in her finger was damaged and became stiff.
This made ordinary tasks like cooking and holding utensils difficult.
Doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital replaced the damaged joint with an artificial one.
The artificial joint had two parts and was called the CapFlex PIP system.
The operation took place on September 18.
She went home the next day and could move her finger.
Doctors said the surgery was difficult because many important body parts are close together in the finger.
A 30-year-old woman regained movement in her left middle finger after a rare small-joint replacement surgery in Delhi.
The procedure replaced her damaged proximal interphalangeal joint using a two-piece CapFlex PIP implant.
She had suffered severe joint damage, significant bone loss and stiffness after a road accident.
Sir Ganga Ram Hospital performed the surgery on September 18 and discharged her the next day.
Doctors said the implant was used for the first time in Delhi for this type of small-joint replacement.
