Mumbai Hospital Saves Premature Baby with Rare Condition
Imagine a tiny baby born too early with a problem where their food pipe and windpipe were connected the wrong way.
This made it hard to eat and breathe.
Doctors in Mumbai performed delicate surgery to fix this and help the baby eat properly.
They also helped with problems with digestion and swallowing.
The baby needed extra help with feeding, using a tube.
After some time, the baby started eating on their own!
Now, the baby is healthy and growing, and can go home with their family.
A premature infant born with a life-threatening Tracheo-oesophageal Fistula (TEF) was successfully treated.
The baby, weighing 1.3 kg at birth, was diagnosed with Type C TEF, requiring immediate medical intervention.
The infant underwent a one-stage corrective surgery, followed by treatment for digestive complications.
A feeding gastrostomy and oesophageal dilatation were performed to aid nutrition and swallowing.
The baby, now weighing 1.8 kg and breastfeeding, is preparing to go home.
