Non-Bank Lenders Boost Asset Reconstruction Purchases Amid Retail Stress

Non-Bank Lenders Boost Asset Reconstruction Purchases Amid Retail Stress

Some non-bank lenders are selling troubled loans to special companies that manage such debt.

These companies are called asset reconstruction companies, or ARCs.

Selling the loans can make the lenders’ balance sheets look healthier.

It can also free money for lenders to provide new loans.

ARCs are now receiving more loans from ordinary consumers and smaller borrowers.

This is different from focusing mainly on large corporate loans.

The change is partly happening because corporate debt is harder to obtain.

Rising problems with retail loans are also increasing demand for these transactions.
