Scientists Discover New Walrus Group in Arctic
Scientists have found a new group of walruses in the Arctic using satellite pictures.
This group was found in a place called Svalbard, which is between Norway and the North Pole.
The scientists used a project called Walrus from Space, where thousands of volunteers helped look at satellite images to find and count walruses.
This is important because walruses are big animals that need sea ice to rest.
But the ice is melting because of climate change, making it harder for walruses to find safe places.
The scientists want to protect walruses because they are important for the Arctic ecosystem.
If walruses disappear, it could affect many other animals in the Arctic.
Scientists discovered a new walrus haul-out in Svalbard using satellite imagery.
The discovery was made through the Walrus from Space project, run by WWF and BAS.
Thousands of volunteers have helped search satellite images to find and count walruses since 2021.
Walruses are under threat from climate change, which is causing sea ice to melt earlier and return later each year.
Walruses play a key role in maintaining the health of the Arctic ecosystem.
