CAG Audit Reveals Major Gaps in UP Housing Scheme
The government's plan to build houses for poor people in villages in Uttar Pradesh has many problems.
A big check found that many houses were not finished properly or did not have things like toilets, water, or electricity.
Some people who needed houses were not included, and some people who should not have gotten houses did.
Also, a lot of money was not given on time or was stuck because houses were not finished.
The government needs to fix these problems to make sure everyone gets a good home.
Audit found 77 out of 2,079 sampled houses were incomplete, with many having substandard construction quality.
54% of sampled houses lacked a dedicated cooking space, and 58% did not have a bathing area.
Widespread shortages of basic amenities: 1,53,062 houses without toilets, 1,99,027 without cooking gas, 2,53,957 without electricity, and 8,66,053 without water supply.
44% of sampled houses did not have proper drainage systems, leading to waterlogging and unhygienic conditions.
Large-scale exclusion of eligible beneficiaries, with 43.89 lakh and 54.32 lakh eligible households identified but not included in 2017-18 and 2018-19 surveys respectively.
