Supreme Court Acquits Public Servant, Criticizes CBI Probe

The Supreme Court reviewed a very old bribery case involving a public servant.

The person was accused of taking money through other officials.

The Central Bureau of Investigation received the complaint on August 3, 2005.

It filed a formal case and set up a trap the next day.

The court said the investigation happened unusually quickly.

It also said investigators watched an intermediary instead of following the money to the accused person.

Because of this, the court was not sure the recovered money was meant for the public servant.

The judges said simply seeing money change hands is not enough to prove corruption.

They therefore acquitted the public servant because the case was not proven beyond reasonable doubt.
