CBFC Clarifies No OTT Content Censorship
The Indian government has said that online streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video will not be controlled by the CBFC, which usually checks movies shown in theaters.
Instead, these platforms will follow special internet rules that make sure their shows are suitable for different age groups and don't show anything illegal.
The CBFC has clarified that it will not examine or certify content released on digital streaming platforms.
The rules require OTT platforms to follow a Code of Ethics, which mandates that content must not violate existing laws and must carry appropriate age-based classifications.
The framework also establishes a three-tier institutional mechanism to ensure compliance and address public grievances.
The onus lies firmly on OTT platforms to ensure their content aligns with Indian legal and cultural standards.
