Ajanta Pharma Licenses Semaglutide for Emerging Markets
Ajanta Pharma, a pharmaceutical company, has made an agreement with Biocon to sell a weight loss drug called semaglutide in 26 countries.
These countries are mostly in Africa, West Asia, and Central Asia.
The patent for this drug will expire in March 2026, and Ajanta plans to start selling it after getting the necessary approvals in late 2026 or early 2027.
This deal won't make Ajanta's profits grow right away, but it could help the company grow in the next few years.
Ajanta Pharma has licensed semaglutide from Biocon for 26 emerging markets.
The drug's patent expires in most of these markets by March 2026.
Commercialisation is expected to begin in late 2026 or early 2027, post-regulatory approvals.
The agreement is not expected to impact Ajanta's earnings immediately.
This deal has the potential to influence Ajanta's medium-term growth.
