Nepal Flood Death Toll Nears 800 as Rescue Efforts Continue

Severe floods and landslides have caused widespread damage in Nepal.

The disaster began on August 26 after ice and rocks may have collapsed near the Nepal-Tibet border.

Water and debris rushed through river systems, destroying homes, roads, bridges and some hydropower facilities.

Officials reported hundreds of deaths, although different reports gave totals of 788 and 794.

More than 2,500 people are still missing, and nearly 9,500 have been rescued.

Rescue teams are using helicopters, vehicles and ground crews to help people.

A bus carrying rescued survivors crashed, injuring 32 of its 38 passengers.

Authorities are still warning people about rising river levels and possible new flash floods.

India has also helped rescue people, including residents from Karnataka.
