Andhra Pradesh Parties Clash Over 34% BC Reservations

Andhra Pradesh Parties Clash Over 34% BC Reservations

The Andhra Pradesh High Court cancelled government orders giving BCs 34% of seats in local elections.

BCs refers to backward-class communities.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP want to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court.

Naidu says his party has supported this level of reservation before.

He blames the YSRCP for reducing the share to 24%.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSRCP say the TDP has misled BCs.

They argue that the 34% plan is illegal and may violate the rule that total reservations should not exceed 50%.

The two parties are preparing different legal and political responses.
