Tata Sons turmoil erases Rs 2.7 lakh crore from stocks

Many Tata group company shares fell sharply in the market.

Together, the shares reportedly lost about Rs 2.7 lakh crore in value.

Investors were worried about changes involving Tata Sons, the company that sits at the center of the group.

N Chandrasekaran first said he would not seek another term as chairman, but the Tata Sons board later reappointed him.

Tata Trusts, led by Noel Tata, objected to that reappointment.

The Reserve Bank of India also rejected Tata Sons’ request to give up its special financial-company registration.

Tata Sons considered going public but later proposed merging with two unlisted units to avoid a listing.

These developments made investors less confident about the group’s future direction.
