Iraq's Election Results Certified by Supreme Federal Court
Iraq's Supreme Federal Court has confirmed the results of the recent parliamentary elections.
The party of the current prime minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, won the most seats but not enough to secure his re-election.
Several other parties also won significant numbers of seats.
Now, political leaders will negotiate to form a new government.
The prime minister is traditionally a Shiite, the president a Kurd, and the parliament speaker a Sunni.
No single party won enough seats to form a government alone, so they will need to work together to create a coalition.
Iraq's Supreme Federal Court ratified the results of the recent parliamentary elections.
Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's coalition won the most seats (46) but not enough for a majority.
Several other parties, including those led by Nouri al-Maliki, Qais al-Khazali, and Masoud Barzani, won significant numbers of seats.
Political leaders will now negotiate to form a ruling coalition as no single bloc has enough seats to govern alone.
The traditional roles of prime minister (Shiite), president (Kurd), and parliament speaker (Sunni) will be considered in the government formation process.
