Blackstone to Invest ₹6,196 Crore in Federal Bank
Blackstone, an investment company, plans to invest about ₹6,196.51 crore in Federal Bank by buying special warrants.
These warrants can be changed into shares within 18 months, making Blackstone a major shareholder with almost 10% of the bank.
The deal will add to a growing number of foreign investments in India's banking sector.
Federal Bank is also planning to seek approval for this deal in an upcoming shareholder meeting.
Experts suggest that smaller banks need more capital and expertise, making investments like this beneficial.
Blackstone will also get the right to nominate a director if they hold enough shares.
Blackstone will invest ₹6,196.51 crore in Federal Bank through preferential warrants.
The warrants are priced at ₹227 each and can be converted to shares within 18 months.
Blackstone will hold 9.99% of Federal Bank after the warrants convert.
The bank's board has approved Blackstone to nominate a non-executive director.
