Old Pipe Leaks Soak Gariahat Road
There is an old water pipe under Gariahat Road that keeps leaking.
The pipe is very old, from the 1970s, and the leaks are making the road wet and dangerous.
The city officials are planning to fix it after a festival called Saraswati Puja.
The leaks are near a temple and a store, and the water is spreading on the road, which is not safe for people, especially since there are schools nearby.
The road is also starting to wear away because of the water.
Two new leaks have appeared in the last 10 days on Gariahat Road, near Ballygunge Phari and ITI.
The underground pipeline is old, made of pre-stressed concrete from the 1970s, and its joints have loosened over time.
The 1,100mm diameter line carries water from the Auckland booster pumping station to neighborhoods in Ballygunge and Gariahat.
Repairs are planned after Saraswati Puja, and traffic police have installed guardrails near the leaks to prevent accidents.
Residents and traffic officers are concerned about road safety and hygiene due to the frequent leaks and wet conditions.
