Bangladesh Hindu Family Missing Amid Threats and Minority Safety Concerns

A Hindu businessman named Pintu Das and members of his family cannot be found in Bangladesh.

Reports say his wife and two sons are among those missing.

One report says four people disappeared, while another says five, so the exact number is unclear.

A relative said Das had debts and may have been threatened.

Police are investigating whether the family left voluntarily or whether something worse happened.

The disappearance came soon after four members of another Hindu family were killed in Rangpur.

Police arrested two young men and said the killings followed an argument about yaba, an illegal drug.

Minority rights groups question whether that explanation tells the whole story.

They want investigators to examine every possible motive, including extremist links, while noting that no direct link has been established.
