228 Tonnes Of Government Wheat Unaccounted For In Uttar Pradesh
Officials in Uttar Pradesh checked two places where the government stores wheat.
Their records said a large amount of wheat should still have been there.
But the inspection team could not find about 228.764 tonnes.
The missing wheat is worth nearly ₹60 lakh.
At one centre, officials reportedly could not get the warehouse key and looked through a window.
At the other centre, they allegedly found no wheat at all.
Police registered a case after the inspection.
Investigators will examine whether the wheat or the records were mishandled.
A surprise inspection found 228.764 metric tonnes of wheat unaccounted for at two procurement centres in Balrampur.
The missing grain is estimated to be worth nearly ₹60 lakh at the minimum support price.
The first centre reportedly had 67.111 tonnes remaining after recorded purchases and dispatches to the Food Corporation of India.
The second centre was expected to hold 161.653 tonnes, but officials allegedly found no wheat in storage.
An FIR was registered at Tulsipur police station after a complaint by Provincial Cooperative Federation district manager Ashwani Shukla.
