Vizag Airport Sees Falling International Traffic
Visakhapatnam Airport in India has seen a drop in international flights and passengers in the first seven months of the fiscal year 2025–26.
There were only 471 international flights compared to 951 in the whole previous year.
However, domestic flights and passengers are much higher, with over 12,000 flights and 1.65 million passengers.
The most passengers traveled in May 2025.
A tourism expert says the drop in international visitors is because two important Asian routes were lost and not enough focus was given to Buddhist tourism.
The government is now trying to improve this by focusing on the Buddhist circuit, which includes many Asian countries.
International aircraft movements at Visakhapatnam Airport dropped to 471 in the first seven months of FY 2025–26, compared to 951 in the full FY 2024–25.
Domestic aircraft movements were significantly higher at 12,359 for the same period.
Total passengers at the airport were 17,09,912, with domestic passengers at 16,50,797 and international passengers at 59,115.
May 2025 saw the highest domestic passenger traffic with 260,229 passengers, while April 2025 had the highest international passenger traffic with 9,801 passengers.
The decline in international traffic is attributed to the loss of two key Asian routes and a lack of focus on Buddhist tourism.
