Judge Blocks Trump's Cancellation of Venezuelan Legal Documents
A judge in the US has said the government can't take away work permits and other legal papers from about 5,000 people from Venezuela.
These Venezuelans were allowed to stay and work in the US under a special program.
The judge said the government shouldn't have tried to cancel their documents because the person in charge didn't have the right to do that.
This is separate from a different case where the government was allowed to end a different program that let in people from Venezuela, Cuba, Haiti, and Nicaragua for a short time.
Now, these 5,000 people can keep their papers and continue to live and work in the United States.
A US judge blocked the Trump administration's attempt to cancel legal documents for around 5,000 Venezuelans.
The documents were issued under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and allowed recipients to live and work legally in the US.
Judge Chen ruled that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem exceeded her authority in attempting to cancel the documents.
The ruling protects Venezuelans who had received TPS-related documents during the Biden administration's extension.
The decision came hours after the Supreme Court allowed the termination of a separate immigration program.
